Veloroos Ride for Safer Cycling- Amy Gillett Foundation
Story
Road Safety is a particular passion for The Veloroos and that is why we began our partnership with the Amy Gillett Foundation as soon as we formed our team.
The Veloroos will be aiming to raise money and awareness for the Amy Gillett Foundation by participating in the 2016 Amy's Share the Road Tour in November of this year. The Veloroos will join the first 2 days of the tour, which in total covers 850km over 6 days from Canberra to Melbourne with stops in Jindabyne, Corryong, Beechworth, Mansfield and Yarra Glen. We are taking the A Metre Matters message to the Victorian Government to encourage them to join QLD, SA, ACT, and Tas all of whom have amended their legislation around mororists passing cyclists safely.
We would welcome any contribution, great or small!
Activity
Amy Gillett Foundation
The Amy Gillett Foundation (AGF) began its work in 2006 in the name of Amy Gillett, who was tragically killed as a result of being hit by a motorist whilst cycling with the Australian Women’s Road cycling team in Germany in 2005.
The Amy Gillett Foundation's vision is for safe bicycling throughout Australia in order to achieve the ultimate target of zero bicycling fatalities.
The Foundation promotes a safe and harmonious relationship of shared respect between bicyclists and motorists – to highlight the importance of being responsible every time we head out on the road whether we're on two wheels or on four. Why? Because everyone deserves to arrive at their destination safely irrespective of their chosen mode of transport.
